This is today's system, not the proposal. Enter a card balance, its rate and what you pay each month.
Assumes a fixed payment, no new purchases or fees, and interest charged monthly at APR ÷ 12. For comparison, U.S. card accounts charged interest averaged 22.15% in Q2 2026 (Federal Reserve G.19).
Explainer 3 · Chapter 7
A thermostat doesn't guess tomorrow's weather. You set it in advance, it measures, and it responds by a published rule. The proposal asks whether routine new money could work the same way: a target path written in law, measured each quarter, with a brake if prices run hot.
Whether that rule would keep prices stable is not yet known. The accounting is open for anyone to run; the economic tests come next.
